Prof. Michaela Hynie

Prof. Michaela Hynie is in the Department of Psychology, York University, and the Associate Director of the York Institute for Health Research (YIHR). Prof. Hynie conducts interdisciplinary research in two broad areas. The first is culture, migration and health inequities, with a particular focus on precarious migration status. The second is the relationship between social connections and resilience in different cultural and national contexts, particularly in situations of social disruption. Current international projects include several partnerships with the University of Rwanda and with partners in Canada, India, Nepal, Pakistan. Prof. Hynie has been on several organizing committees for several conferences including the annual meetings of the Canadian Association of Refugee and Forced Migration Studies (2013; 2014); the Seeking Solutions Symposium: Access to Health Care for the Uninsured in Canada. Linking Ethics, Research Evidence, and Policy-Practice Change (2012); and was Program Chair for Division 9 of the Annual convention of the American Psychological Association (2009).
